Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to announce that Professor Mohammed Munavvar, Consultant Respiratory Physician and Interventional Pulmonologist, has been shortlisted for Clinical Leader of the Year at the HSJ Awards, recognising an outstanding contribution to healthcare and securing a place at the prestigious awards ceremony later this year.
A record-breaking 1456 entries have been received for this year’s awards, with 223 projects and individuals reaching the final shortlist, making it the biggest awards programme in the award’s 43-year history. The high volume – and exceptional quality – of applications once again mirrors the impressive levels of innovation and care continually being developed within the UK’s healthcare networks.
Following a thorough judging process, Professor Munavvar was shortlisted, ahead of the official awards ceremony to be held later this year on 16th November. Professor Munavvar’s role as a clinical leader at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals stood out as a real success story worthy of a prized place on the panel’s shortlist.
Professor Munavvar is an outstanding clinical leader and fantastic ambassador for respiratory medicine around the world. He works incredibly hard to provide the best patient care by introducing the latest, cutting-edge technologies to improve diagnosis, treatment and outcomes for respiratory patients. An internationally renowned expert in COVID-19, interventional pulmonology and tuberculosis, he offers clear leadership, expert advice, training and mentoring to many others globally and dedicates much of his free time to fundraising for new equipment at Rosemere Cancer Foundation Charity.
In a UK first, Professor Munavvar recently introduced Lung Vision, the world’s most advanced pulmonary navigational software system at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals. Lung Vision enables doctors using a bronchoscope to examine inside a patient’s lungs in real time, penetrating deeper and reaching areas they were previously unable to reach to take biopsy samples. This procedure represents an incredible advancement which will identify lung cancer more quickly and enable patients to receive personalised treatment and enhanced care. This is just one of several innovations that Professor Munavvar has been involved with during his time at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.
Chief Executive, Kevin McGee, said: “We are thrilled to hear that Professor Munavvar has been shortlisted for Clinical Leader of the Year at this year’s HSJ Awards. His success will be a huge boost for our dedicated and hardworking respiratory team at Royal Preston Hospital following the incredible work achieved during the pandemic.”
“Professor Munavvar is a wonderful, selfless and dedicated doctor who gives so much to others on both a personal and professional basis. He is an inspirational clinical leader whose influence and impact extend way beyond the day-to-day work he does in the hospital. He is recognised by many people for his outstanding contribution to the field of respiratory medicine and also for the charity, community engagement and voluntary work he does to support others. He fully deserves to be recognised for all his achievements.
“Whatever the result on the night, we are extremely proud of Professor Munavvar and to have the opportunity to share his success with colleagues from across the entire sector.”
HSJ editor Alistair McLellan, adds: “It always gives me great pleasure to congratulate our finalists at this stage of the judging process and this year is no exception, as we acknowledge Professor Mohammed Munavvar for being shortlisted in the category of Clinical Leader of the Year.
“It’s been so encouraging to hear that 2023 has been record-breaking in terms of the number of applicants and, as ever, the calibre of entries left our panel of expert judges with some tough decisions to deliberate over.
“However, it’s always important to remember that the HSJ Awards are not just a celebration of success stories but also a platform to shape the future of the NHS. We can’t wait to welcome our finalists to the awards ceremony in November and to recognise and applaud such impressive achievements across the sector – as well as coming together to help mark the 75th birthday of our great NHS. Huge thanks also go to our new headline partner, Vodafone, who share our mission of driving the standard of healthcare excellence and creating better patient experiences.”
The selected winners will be announced during the awards ceremony at Evolution London on 16th November 2023.
The event will not only reflect the HSJ Awards’ enduring ethos of ‘sharing best practice, improving patient outcomes and innovating drivers of better service’ but will also serve as a timely and well-deserved thank you to the sector during the 75th anniversary year of the NHS.
