Lancashire Teaching Hospitals shortlisted for 2024 HSJ Patient Safety Awards

Staff group photoLancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to announce that their Chorley Children and Young People Surgical Hub Project has been shortlisted for the Improving Care for Children and Young People Initiative of the Year at this year’s HSJ Patient Safety Awards.

The HSJ Patient Safety Awards recognise safety, culture and positive experience in patient care and acknowledge the hard-working teams and individuals across the UK who are continually striving to deliver improved patient care.

Following the thorough judging process, the Trust was included in the 206 organisations, projects and individuals that made the final shortlist, amid 415 entries logged for the 2024 awards programme.

The project established a paediatric elective surgical hub at Chorley and South Ribble Hospital for the first time, moving some of our multispecialty paediatric surgical day case lists from an acute site at Royal Preston Hospital to our existing elective hub, allowing us to treat more children in the same number of theatre sessions, with the added benefit of improved patient, carer and staff experience.

Steve Canty, Surgical Medical Director, said: “This is such exciting news for the whole team that have been involved with this project, and we never underestimate the impact and positive ‘boost’ that being shortlisted for an HSJ Patient Safety Award will bring to our wider team and colleagues.”

“The HSJ awards programme is a high profile and hugely respected platform to showcase the work and achievements of the many healthcare professionals who enter, and we’re delighted to have been recognised on this shortlist for a 2024 Patient Safety Award.”

The Awards are a highlight of the HSJ’s annual 2-day Patient Safety Congress (taking place on 16 and 17 September), where delegates working at the forefront of safety, quality and clinical excellence come together to join in on open and honest discussions about the current reality of safety.

The full list of finalists for the 2024 HSJ Patient Safety Awards can be found at https://awards.patientsafetycongress.co.uk/shortlist-2024

Winners will be announced during the awards ceremony at Manchester Central, on September 16, 2024.
