The National Forum for Health and Wellbeing’s flagship Preston Health Mela will return to the University of Central Lancashire on Saturday 12 April 2025. It will be held at the University’s Foster building from 11 am till 3 pm.
Dr Mumtaz Patel, President of the Royal College of Physicians London and consultant physician from Manchester will be the chief guest. Other local and regional public, health and civic leaders too are expected to attend.
Speaking of the event, Professor Romesh Gupta OBE, chairman of NFHW said “It has been 24 years since we started organising the health mela to empower the local community to take control of their own health. I am delighted that over the years we have gone from strength to strength. It is a testament of the hard work of NFHW members, backing from our several partners and support from the local community.”
This event will have nearly 70 health related displays from various organisations including NHS as well as health workers to provide help, support and signpost individuals about various ailments such as cancer, diabetes, oral health, mental health to name a few. In addition, there will be the opportunity to have free health MOT which will include recording of body vitals, blood tests for sugar and cholesterol followed by advice from healthcare professionals. Taster sessions of Reiki will also be on offer and activities such as a smoothie bike to prepare your own smoothie and enjoy it will also be available.
This health mela is being held in partnership with University’s School of Medicine and Dentistry, local NHS trusts, various voluntary and statutory organisations.
The event is free to attend and no prior booking is necessary. There will be free car parking on the University car parks on the day.
