Biography
Dr. So studied medicine at the University of Glasgow following which he completed foundation training in Stobhill Hospital, Monkland District General and Marie Curie Hospice Glasgow. This was followed by run through training in the West of Scotland culminating in a certificate of completion of training in Nephrology and General Internal Medicine in 2016. His training included a period of out of programme experience and research as a Clinical Teaching Fellow at University Teaching Hospital Crosshouse and Clinical Research Fellow at the University of Glasgow which led to the award of a Doctor of Medicine doctorate degree in 2018 from his research thesis titled “Chronic Kidney Disease: determining chronicity, prevalence, variation and survival in a community chronic kidney disease cohort”.
He was appointed to his current post as a Consultant Nephrologist at the Renal Unit at Royal Preston Hospital in 2017 where he has assumed leadership roles in Vascular Access, Informatics, Quality Improvement, Dialysis and Advance Kidney Disease. He has also developed a keen interest in harnessing technology to improve patient care through his role as Renal IT lead and Associate Clinical Information Officer. He continues to pursue and develop his passion for Population Health Management in conjunction with the Division of Population Health, Health Services Research and Primary Care at the University of Manchester. In addition, he provides supervision to a Health Education for England Population Health Fellow, as well as Nephrology Speciality Trainees and Flexible Portfolio Trainees.
Dr. So was also appointed to the Topol Digital Fellowship programme cohort 2 during which he worked on preventing the delayed recognition and diagnosis of advance kidney disease in the community. He has also contributed to research as Principal Investigator in several national and international trials. In addition, he was proud to be acknowledged as a collaborator in the RECOVERY trial, amongst the many who answered the call to rapidly find safe and effective treatments for the global pandemic.
